Does anyone do Web work? What's the best way to estimate time and costs
for that kind of work? I've found a few places with information.
Nothing too definitive yet. What do you think? What I REALLY want to
know is how to estimate how much TIME it takes to build Web pages of
various complexities. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
Jeanne
VARIOUS SOURCES:
Difficult to say
Depends on number of elements (graphics, links, fonts) on a page
Depends on how many pages
Depends on complexity of HTML or XML code
SOURCE A:
1) Single page simple site, HTML + CSS = $25-$50 depending on how much
is on the page
2) Single page complex site, HTML + CSS + (JavaScript, PHP, etc.) =
$25-$50 for the HTML + CSS
$25/hr for scripting
3) Several pages simple site, HTML + CSS = $25-$40/page for HTML + CSS
(depending on length)
4) Several pages intermediate site, HTML + CSS, some JavaScript or PHP =
$25-$40/page for HTML + CSS (depending on length)
$25/hr for scripting
5) Several pages complex site, HTML + CSS + some more advanced scripting
in JS or PHP (possibly some filesystem stuff in PHP) = $25-$40/page for
HTML + CSS (depending on length), $40/hr for scripting
6) Many pages but simple -- currently doing a 4 page site, with basic
javascript - $200 (includes basic support)
7) Many pages intermediate = $depends
8) Many pages complex (filesystem, news, updates, etc.) = $depends
SOURCE B:

Parsed web traffic tracking software installation included. Custom
graphic design is always included. Matching stationary templates, and
business card templates are included. $800
SOURCE C:
Charge per project if its only small work than per hour
Usually basic things like a news script + admin would be $25-75 US
depending on how much will be needed.
High-security to complex scripts would be much higher starting around
$200+
SOURCE D:
I've been in the business for 7 years now, I only charge by the project
as different clients have different needs on a page by page basis. I
usually meet with the client, figure out the project and how long it
will take me, then multiply that by my hourly ($50 - $60/hr depending on
my availability)
remember to account for time spent on reviews - it might take 6 hours to
design a home page but if they want to change everything on the
first/second/third review cycle then they need to pay for it, so work
that into any bid
