TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Me, too. Much like Sean - only a late arrival to WWP in the last year or so. We use conditional text for print only and help only items, some of which may become universal one of these days for navigation within the PDF as well as the help.
We use lots of text insets and conditional text to share information between different documents. We have some chapters that are 90-99 percent re-used content. We have other chapters that have no re-used content. As usual - it depends on the material, if it's repeated somewhere else and whether we've had time to work out the logistics and convert the shared text to text insets.
We have a several phone user guides that are currently made up of two files that are the same for all phones, one file that uses lots of text conditional text to set up feature use conditions and one chapter that is nothing but conditionalized text insets for the general phone material. I hope to (one of these days) create text insets for each phone feature with separate text flows based on phone type so we can re-use this material in multiple ways across multiple documents.

Subject: Re: Single-sourcing, who's doing it?
Me, since about 1999 using unstructured FrameMaker,
WebWorks Publisher Pro/2003 from Quadralay, and no
XML. Delivery has varied, but typically my
deliverables differ in both content and formatting,
and press-ready PDF, online PDF, and context-sensitive
CHM are what I ship. The total amount of reuse depends
on projects, but I have one project where reuse is
probably around 40% for all three deliverables.
RoboHelp for FrameMaker is a NEW online publishing tool for FrameMaker that
lets you easily single-source content to online Help, intranet, and Web.
The interface is designed for FrameMaker users, so there is little or no
learning curve and no macro language required! Call 800-718-4407 for
