Well stated!
Here are some things to think about as you get started.
The final product, how will you print it, color or black and white?
Outsourcing to print shops or in-house Binding material and equipment.
Service agreements for equipment Supplies for equipment Storage for supplies
I manage what I call a mini Kinko's within my company. You need to be aware
of paper, binding material, and equipment cost and don't forget about
service agreements for equipment. If you bring in your own printers, will
you maintain your own stock, i.e. paper, toner, and transparencies.
Be sure to create a routing form to follow each job/writing request. This
will allow you to track time spent on certain types of documentation.
And most important!!!!
Be sure to get with your IS department and set up a tech-writer group on
your server and be certain to make it accessible to ONLY Tech writers!
Otherwise document management will bite you in the rear!!!
Structure your electronic filing for ease of use.
Good luck and keep us informed on your progress!!
