If I have one criticism of Microsoft, I think they try too hard
to be everything for everyone. The end result is a
jack-of-all-trades product that does a lot of things, but perhaps
doesn't do them all that well.
An example that keeps popping up of a feature that is a good
idea, but has questionable value, is the Master Document feature.
Ideally, it should allow us to break huge documents up into
smaller pieces that different people in a group could work on, or
which would limit the demand for resources on a project that is
very resource intensive. Yet the horror stories of things gone
wrong with the feature abound.
