Anna Langley asked for suggestions on how to improve writers' efficiency by
20 percent.
I suggest your group look at the workflow. Can more work be reused than is
current the case? Can work be done faster by dividing it up in different
ways? For example, might it be more efficient for the writers to work on
different parts of each deliverable, rather than being responsible for a
complete deliverable (assuming that's the current situation)? Or for the
writers to ignore the finer points of the style guide and let you as editor
tidy up the details?
Also related to workflow: are there bottlenecks in the process, perhaps
caused by events and people over whom the group has no direct control (slow
reviewer response times, lack of timely information from SMEs, too many
non-productive meetings discussing how to be more productive, etc)? Can
your manager make or negotiate any changes to lessen or remove those
bottlenecks?
