Here are two key features of Acrobat that we use everyday. But it seems they are somewhat mutually exclusive. If I protect a pdf file with a password, it will be skipped by the catalog (index-building) process. I want the best of both worlds, most pdf's as unprotected, with a few restricted (password required to open) but all included in the same catalog. Am I overlooking a simple switch/checkbox/option somewhere?
For reference:
PROTECTION: You can password-protect the PDF files against unauthorized opening, changing, selecting text or graphics, and printing.
INDEXING: You can use Acrobat Catalog to make a full-text electronic index of every word in every manual in a collection.
