In general, salaries (at least in Silicon Valley) have dropped to pre-boom rates. Around here, if you change jobs (willingly or not) your salary tends to drop about 30% from boom-era rates . . . (too bad my mortgage hasn't done the same :) )
The STC Salary Survey is of limited value (IMHO) and always has been, simply because it is not thorough enough. Having said that, it's a usable baseline, if you run the numbers through the reality of your geographical area.

You may want to check STC chapter web sites. Many chapters run member
surveys which ask for salary/hourly rate information and post them on
their web sites. If the information is available for your area, it would
give you a better feel for the going rate than the larger and broader
STC Salary survey.
