Yes, of course we permit SMEs to revise drafts. Our goal is to get their
greatest input in the most efficient manner possible. If it isn't easy for
the SME, it isn't efficient.
We use Word. The draft that I send to them is identified by version number
in the file name. When an SME returns a revised version to me, I identify it
as such by adding the SME's initials to the file name. I am the only one who
creates higher version numbers and final versions of drafts, based on
approved changes. We do not use Change Tracking in Word, which can cause
file bloat; Compare Documents works better for us.
Frame is probably a better application for creating large documents, but
Word might be a better application for collaborating with non-Frame users.
