In most of the places I've worked, pre-release documents
have been identified by one of the following methods:

"Alpha," "Beta," "Gamma," etc.

"Rev 0.1," "Rev 0.2," etc., leading to "A" or "1.0"
at final release.

"Draft," followed by the date.
