I concur that "against my name" would not be understood in an American context. Here, the term "against" is heavily weighted to the "contrary to" or meaning; I can't think of any examples where it might mean "opposite" without some sense of opposition in more than a spatial sense.
I don't believe it would be only the less-educated who would misunderstand this use were it to appear here.
