I was in your EXACT position in 1993. And you know what I did. I went and
bought a book on SQL and learned databases at night. I used my home computer
and set up my own databases. I asked questions. I read, learned, and made the
best out of a tough situation. At the end of the project, I knew SQL pretty
well. So well, that I got hired at a consulting firm for more money, then went
on to document databases at a BIG software company where I made a ton of money.
So much that I was able to start my own business - which has grown into one of
the nation's more prominent information security firms.
You do whatever you want. But, you're missing an opportunity. I am sure glad I
didn't say "I can't do that" in 1993. I probably wouldn't be where I am.

Well, if you were my employee and you told me you wouldn't learn something
necessary to do the job, I'd fire you and wash my hands of the relationship.
However, I wouldn't try to get the 80 hours out of you because that's absurd.
I'd say you're in a pickle. And since you aren't willing to do what it takes to
make things work, then you probably should just plan on having your wages
recalled from the vendor.
Furthermore, jobs are misrepresented all the time. Things change. This is the
normal order of things. You have absolutely no ground on that issue.
