Recently I was asked to make a brief (20 minute)
presentation that would address "what technical
writing is." My first thought was, "don't bore
these people to death," so I googled phrases like,
"what is technical writing" and "technical writing
overview" to rehash what's out there and give me
some ideas about how to do this without repeating
old material. Turns out I needn't have worried,
because there's damned little out there that
explains "what technical writing is" to a lay
audience. No wonder people respond with that
confused look on their faces when they hear you
say "I'm a technical writer!"
