TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Yep, we're an obscure bunch of folks. Someone else
offered the best response I've heard yet when asked
what it is we do: "I write books about computers."
That's worked well for me.
As a profession, we and the organizations that
represent us have done a poor job explaining and
promoting technical communication. We need to be much
more proactive about publishing articles in magazines
and journals that are read by IT managers,
programmers, QA analysts, and the leaders in the
industries in which we work.
