Of course they do, but in your mind instead of on paper. Because I'm
using my FM content also for help, while I'm authoring, I've defined
each of my 5 levels of heading styles to start on a new page. I do this
as a clue to myself that when a section starts heading toward a page
length, the topic is getting too long and I need to break it down into
smaller chunks.
I also apply character level markup with mostly no change in
attribute...all character styles (button, window, dialog, input, output)
are marked but with no attributes. Only when a chapter is heading toward
final review do I define the styles with attributes that I have stored
in another template. Doing this freed me up from the indecision of
whether I should make something bold, italics, small caps, etc., and
made me concentrate on the words.
