The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Recently, one of our clients stated that they didn't want the term "user's
guide" used for their product. It has now went all the way up to the
president of our area, and I lucked out and got to research the problem.
Basically, they don't like the term "user's guide" and they want it
dropped from every product. We have dozens upon dozens of user's guides
and we feel that changing the name would cause chaos with other clients.
Has anyone else had this problem? If not "user's guide" what can we call
them? What are other companies doing? If we can make a case for the term,
it's not a problem. Otherwise, we have to start brainstorming for new
ideas...and praying our other clients don't throw a fit.
