Slap the word "DRAFT" onto the draft (for that's what it is), as a
watermark under the text. You can do that in Word or, better yet, in
Acrobat. That covers all the bases.
The only thing to watch out for is the "have my cake and eat it, too"
type, viz.:
"We need to send the documentation out to X Company tomorrow. They want
to evaluate the product for a potential sale."
"OK, we want to support your sales effort. The documents aren't
reviewed yet, so I'll put 'DRAFT' on the pages."
"That's fine. Can I have them in an hour?"
Then, when the draft is delivered:
"One more thing. You need to take the word 'DRAFT' off the pages."
"Why? We agreed to call them drafts. That's the only reason I agreed to
release them in the first place."
"But I told the customer the product's ready to ship!"
"Well, I won't do that. The documents aren't final; they're not even
reviewed."
"OK, give the Word files to me and I'll ship them to the customer."
(wink, wink)
I consider this flat-out unethical, and I would blast the company where
I first encountered it, if it hadn't happened at more than one company
