AP Style guide says:
Many combinations that are hyphenated before a noun are note hyphenated
when they occur after a noun. (She works full time.)
But when a modifyier that would be hyphenated before a noun occurs instead
after a form of the verb "to be," the hyphen usually must be retained to
avoid any confusion. (The children are soft-spoken. The man is well-known.
Therefore, the seaman is able-bodied.)
