Unless I am mistaken, Google just piggybacks on usenet newsgroups. So
technically, it isn't Google who's great, but Usenet :)
And if I read correctly this list's history, TECHWR-l left the usenet to
form a semi-private list to minimise e-mail harvesting and spam, and thus
increase signal-to-noise ratio.
So I'm not sure going back to usenet would be a good idea.
