Kate,
First, what is important is not the ad revenue, but the difference between the revenue and expenditures.
Second, you have no idea at this point what a nonprofit may be able to raise...nor does anyone else.
Third, any price that may be affixed as a cash sale must be considered in light of tax consequences of that sale. Therefore, if some or all of the transaction can be in terms of a deductible donation, the difference can be substantial--with, perhaps, favorable results for Eric and Deborah.
As I think I mentioned originally, I have actually *done* several deals of this sort in the past...so I am not so quick to dismiss its possibility as you seem to be.
However, I do appreciate the delicacy of expression about how they would be "fools" to sell TECHWR-L for a compensation amount yet to be discussed, let alone agreed upon.
As I have discussed with another list member off-list, very few tech writers seem to understand business...
Isn't the ad revenue alone >$65,000/year--according to the sponsors page?
That means that the site would be prohibitively expensive to run and, in
turn, buy. The Ray's would be fools to sell it for what a non-profit
corporation is likely going to raise.
