Well, in my case, the termination letter says that 23 August is my termination date and that severance is to be paid, "in the form of salary continuation for a period of" n weeks. So we'll see what the state has to say about that.

However, I found _this_ interesting: I called the Connecticut unemployment office to file the claim (telecommuting from CT to a MA employer, with CT income tax withheld). The person who took the call and to whom I had given nothing but my SSN (not even my name at this point) told me the following:

1. Oh, it looks like your employer did not report any Connecticut wages for you. Umm, just a minute. I see, they reported Massachusetts wages. The employer is ..., right? [yes, right]

2. Hmmm, let me check. Okay, you can get substantially higher benefits and for a longer period if you file in Massachusetts instead of Connecticut. I'll just ask you a few questions right now, and then you will receive all future correspondence from Massachusetts.

That was it. I answered a few questions, most of which she already had the answers to in front of her. I didn't get referred to a Massachusetts phone number. I didn't get sent into voice-automated hell. I didn't have to speak with a supervisor. Times have certainly changed since the last time I applied for UI benefits. Wow!
