Hi- I'm new to the list, but I wanted to add my two
cents on this topic. I am currently finishing a
masters in Technical Writing. It is because of this
degree that I was apply to obtain my internship with
the government. This internship will lead to a
full-time permanent position with the department I am
working for. I got this because I choose to pursue a
masters instead of going straight to work.
So, getting a master's is what is working for me,
while others had a better experience with other
methods. My advice would be to do what you want to
do. No amount of education or training is bad. I
learned a lot about document design and layout through
my courses, I learned a lot about writing at school.
I have learned more and refined my previous knowledge
here on the job. None of it has been a waste.
If you want the masters, then find a way to get one.
If you don't, then don't bother. Either way you will
learn something if you choose to.
