This may be a clumsy attempt on their part to get at stuff like questionable personal hygiene, offensive religious displays/proselytization at work, a radical political agenda, etc. A: Can the person do the job? B. Would you both survive if you were stuck in an elevator with the person for an hour?

I'm sure there are better ways to ask than to request blanket authorization to pry into your personal life, though, because the important question is about your behavior at work.
