TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
And as near as I could see, so were all of the answers. The question
asked was whether there were any reasons why the message might
have to be kept, and what arguements could help make the case to
remove them. The question produced replies that provided reasons
why the message might be needed, reasons why it could be removed
without doing any harm and some opinions about whether it would be
worth a great deal of effort to make a change. As in most discussions,
everybody's responses reflected in part their own experiences, and
as the discussion went on people started talking to each other and not
just to the original question. An open forum is not a FAQ; there's
nobody editing out the background noise, and when you ask a question
you're inevitably going to have to sort through the resulting discussion
to glean whatever useful information there is to be found.
