There's been discussions of carpal tunnel on this list before, so you might want
to check the archives.
For now, you probably aren't interested in preventative measures. However, once
you're over the present problem, the best way to avoid carpal tunnel is to make
sure that you regularly exercise your arm muscles, especially those in your
wrists and hands. Pushups help immensely. So do repetitions with 5 pound bar
bells and various devices for improving hand strength. In all these cases, the
point is build strength slowly through light repetitions. If you do 15 minutes a
day, within a few months, you probably won't be bothered by carpal tunnel again.
