In response to my shocked statement:

What?! _Of_course_ "first come, first served" makes sense.

Are you kidding? What about "firstborn" (the one who was born first)? Does that, too, offend your ear?

The connection is obvious: The first [to have] come is the first [to be] served.


...When the language revolution comes, I hope that
conjunctions will be the first go.
