My top three "desert island" reference books are:

The Chicago Manual of Style
Garner's Modern American Usage
MS Manual of Style for Technical Publications

Someone gave this book to me as a gift. I rarely use
it, mostly because I find the answer in one of my top
three books. Same applies to the 3-4 TWing texts that
I own. I *rarely* use them for reference purposes.

HTH,

Leigh
