TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
As others have said I see the list as a major resource - bit like having
a VERY knowledgeable TWer in the next cubicle (I've yet to have an
question posted unanswered). On the whole my employers over the years
have had a similar attitude - they've seen the benefits from having
issues resolved quickly.
When I first joined the list I read everything. Soon I read threads of
interest/relevance and a few contributors that I considered worth
reading whatever the topic. Over the years I've read them as they've
arrived, on digest and when I had the time - depended on the
circumstances.
Currently, having just started a new job and off digest, I've my email
set up to filter messages to a TW folder for reading at lunchtime or
when there's a suitable break.
