I think the important thing to remember is that not all employers
behave badly, nor do they all consider stuff out of context when
investigating a candidate's credentials.
Absolutely. _Some_ (and perhaps most in certain industries) tend to behave badly under certain circumstances. But there are a lot of fine upstanding employers out there, too.
