RE: Why don't more job interviews use writing tests?
Subject:RE: Why don't more job interviews use writing tests? From:"CB Casper" <knowone -at- surfy -dot- net> To:"TECHWR-L" <techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com> Date:Thu, 10 Feb 2005 05:36:41 -0800
A contracting agency that also did work in-house
handed me a test of basic writing skills along with
the application for the job.
The test was basic, not a big deal, just editing,
but the application itself was riddled with errors
in language, spelling, grammar, and one of those
questions that cannot be answered. Yes or No, do you
want chicken or beef for lunch? type of question.
I edited the application, making the assumption
that since it was provided to me at the same time
as the editing test, it was to be edited as well.
This didn't go over very well, as the owner of the
business created the application and was very proud
of the document.
Didn't bother me one iota that they didn't call me
back. I wouldn't want to work for a company that
professed to be a high quality writing company when
they had such poor standards for their own work.
CB - drove by the company a year later and they
were gone, I wonder why!
