I have been involved in several  projects, as a tech writer.

1)  Yes, and I was involved in modifying  SDLC documentation to meet the 
needs of the organization.

2)  If you  are involved in an organization that is seeking SEI-CMM or 
SEI-CMMI appraisal,  you most certainly should be involved in the audits.

My last project was  involved in both 1) and 2).
