Hi diotima

I agree. Language - and writing - for most people is heavily context-driven.
I'm going to use different words and sentence structures depending on who I
am with and where we are, and for writing, who the audience is and the
intended effect. If I'm writing a technical report on the chemical makeup of
beer, my tone and word choice will be different than if I was writing an
article about a beer tasting for a high-brow magazine. And different again
than in an email to a friend when setting up a pub crawl.

And in the words of the immortal Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the episode
where she drinks a witched brew and reverts to a primitive state, sometimes
it's enough to say: BEER GOOD!

Language is fun. ;-))
