I was originally going to go into journalism, but about the time I was
going to transfer to Winona State, the University of Minnesota offered
Scientific and Technical Communications at their Rochester campus. I
went to an info session and I was hooked.
Besides what I saw as the basis of technical writing, I also looked at
the money. I could work twice as much for half as much as a journalist
as compared to a technical writer. I am sure that comment will draw a
few comments, but I believe my hours now and ever since I got out of
college are much more stable than had I gone down my original path
towards journalism.
