The "legalese" being discussed isn't appended by the list server, but by the mail servers of the people sending the messages, and not just as posters of messages to this list, but as senders of e-mail in general.

It's those meaningless, unenforceable legalese automatically appended to outgoing e-mail (typically from big corporations) that Keith was discussing, not the ads and subscription info appended to messages distributed by Techwr-L.

(By the way, those ads help keep Techwr-L a no-charge service; and the subscription info is accepted good behavior in environments like Techwr-L.)
