Hello TECHWR-Lers,
I used to belong to this list about five few years ago and have recently
re-joined. Nice to see some familiar long-timers' names again.
I am a systems analyst by title but a technical writer in practice and at
heart for a global pharmaceutical company. As a systems analyst, I provide
customer training, support and troubleshooting for the research and
development applications we use to create submissions to the FDA and other
international regulatory agencies. As the company's lone technical writer, I
author user guides, work instructions, Word templates, style guides,
standard operating procedures, project documentation, validation test plans,
intranet content, and other writing projects as assigned.
It's a great hybrid job with a wonderful company, where each day brings new
and exciting challenges in both the systems analysis and tech writing
realms. However, I definitely favor the TW side of my job description.

I'm curious how many of you do technical writing and something else in
your job. In the job before my current one, I was a technical
writer/release engineer. In addition to writing documentation,
including feature specifications, I would run the build and code the
installers. I'm hoping someday to find a job that will allow me to be
a "technical writer/programmer."
What other types of hybrid technical writing jobs are out there?
