TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Now, in my opinion this IS a flame - a personal attack. The thread was
only in the grey area before.
My advice to the cute blonde... ask the consulting company what their
security policies are (if any) to ensure your safety. Then research
the area to which you will be travelling, specifically with respect to
customs, dress, etc. and determine if you will be able to abide by the
social norm of that environment. If you have any fears, doubts, etc.,
you would be better to pass on this opportunity. Trust your instincts.
As for everything else, can we keep this thread on topic? Perhaps
another thread could be opened to deal with self-perceptions,
political correctness, etc. If not, can we kill it?

To me, the greatest pleasure of writing is not what it's about, but
the inner music that words make.
