I suppose the question to ask of the company is, if you should be
detained by a border guard, or whomever, what actions will they take
on your behalf.
I work with someone who is of Pakistani descent, but grew up in Dubai.
He frequently needs to travel to the Caribbean (Trinidad, Tobago,
Bahamas, etc.) for support/training purposes. Our clients pay all of
the related expenses, and balk whenever we insist that only direct
flights are acceptable, as most flights have a stopover/ connection in
Miami (I'm in Canada). The problem is whenever he sets foot on
American soil, he is immediately detained and the company spends days
(once even weeks) trying to have him released. He is only stopped
because of his family name (Hussein).
So I think it's a fair question to ask the company; what support /
assistance / intervention can be expected should you be detained.
