This is absolutely true.  The role of HR is to protect the *company,*
not its employees.  Ideally, this is done by ensuring that the company's 
policies and behavior toward its people are conducted in a manner 
that dots all the i's and crosses all the t's so that it is impeccably
proper, but in the real world...

As a manager, I *always* frame my communications with HR in
terms of what I believe the impact to the *company* may be if my
concerns are not dealt with, not in terms of what I think is "right."
