So what if they already have another definition for the term
*attribute*. What issue is there in allowing two meanings for one term
to coexist; one meaning in the product context and another for
development constructs.
When you 'splain your and your manager's decision to the programmers, it
might help to use the concept of XML *namespaces* as an analogy!

The explanation I got was that the XML library our programmers are using
uses the term "prop", short for property, when describing an element
attribute. Furthermore, the software developers tell me that they have
"already used the word 'attribute' to mean something else" in our
proprietary software. This tells me that our programmers are less than
fully conversant in XML, and that their XML library may be non-standard.
