Re: Localization Question
Would that it were that easy, Lou. Sure, if you and I have control over
the UI design, it can be. But on a Web page with thirty or forty
controls in four or five graphically distinct styles each in a different
area of the page and arrayed differently from the others--not to mention
a bunch of promotional graphics--it is not at all obvious what the
program is telling the user, let alone asking.
Sounds like a business reason for a UI redesign or at least a
usability study to me...
Try explaining to a client how to manage a domain that's registered
through godaddy.com, for example. You need to be able to identify
on-page controls at a more granular level than "Go Daddy asks you," and
you need to be able to describe what changes visually on the monitor
when your user clicks a particular control.
Context is everything. When necessary to explain, I agree it's good to do so.
Would I like the Go Daddy interface to be simpler and more intuitive?
You bet I would. But that's not my call, is it?
If you work for them and are on the project team for it, then I'd say
yes, it's your call.
