Re: Hardware Requirements for a New Job
However, if your management knows that you aren't a developer and yet
you ask for a development machine, your request for what you REALLY
need may hit a credibility snag.
The only time I ever hit a "credibiity snag" when asking for well- outfitted equipment it was quickly overcome with the magic words: I need to run Adobe Creative Suite.
The only thing I would add to this conversation would be to get a laptop rather than a desktop. Laptops are insanely useful for bringing to meetings, taking notes, demonstrating what you're working on at someone else's desk, etc. Ideally you'd get a laptop with a dock and a big screen, mouse and keyboard so you can "plug in" at your desk but still be mobile when you need to be.
At my last job everyone, top to bottom, got high end laptops with wireless and big LCDs. And they were there and working with all the software you needed installed the day you arrived. it was like... heaven.
