Subject:Re: Help in learning how to land an internship From:"A.H." <isaac840 -at- yahoo -dot- com> To:Emily Sirois <emilysirois -at- comcast -dot- net> Date:Fri, 6 Oct 2006 13:36:01 -0700 (PDT)
I started my internship as a final project for a
software documentation class. My professor hooked me
up with a nonprofit that needed some documentation for
a database it was developing. As my class was ending,
I asked to stay on at least to complete the project
and was offered a job. Sweet!
To make a long story short, I met some great people,
learned a bunch of stuff, graduated, and I'm now
working at the same nonprofit full time as a tech
writer.
I'd say use the resources at your school to help to
get your foot in the door. Pester your advisor and
professors to introduce you to professionals. A few
friends of mine got interships that way. Once your
foot's there, its up to you to keep it open.
