Re: Acrobat: Adding E-Mail Hyperlinks
Is there an easy way to add an e-mail hyperlink to an already created
PDF document? We're using Acrobat 6, and, although I can readily add
some links, creating the e-mail variety isn't obvious. Unfortunately,
Acrobat is not picking up the hyperlink in the source document, at least
not in a way that can be read by anything below Reader 7, which not all
of our readership will have.
To create web links (including e-mail links) automatically for an existing PDF, try: Advanced > Links > Create From URLs In Document
Acrobat's interpretation of text-based web addresses is problematic when the URL is split between lines, or when the "underlying" text is not recognized properly. In the case of e-mail addresses, the presence of characters such as dot, underscore or dash disrupts the resulting link (so that a link to b -at- company -dot- com is created, instead of a_b -at- company -dot- com).
To create or fix web links manually, use the standard Link tool (the action is "open a web page"; specify the full address, starting with "mailto:").
