Re: Frame and rendered 3D images
... Finally, finally, management is starting to soften up or at least see
the light which most of you have enjoyed for the last 20 years. They are
going to allow us to be technical writers and actually compose a
document--radical thinking I know.
We will be moving from Quicksilver to another desktop publishing
software, which and I am pushing for Framemaker. We are moving away from
2d CAD line drawings to rendered 3D images in jpeg or tiff format. ...
In the context of changing the authoring/production process, I would also recommend looking into the inclusion of interactive 3D graphics (especially if your deliverables include PDF files).
Interactive 3D support was introduced in Acrobat Professional 7 and expanded in Acrobat 3D.
A brief overview of 3D-PDF is available at http://www.stc-israel.org.il/Album/Acrobat_April2006/Presentations/3D_Acrobat_Print.pdf
For sample PDFs containing interactive 3D graphics, authored in FrameMaker, visit: http://www.microtype.com/TimeSavers_Assistants.html#3DAsst (Acrobat/Reader 7 required)
