TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I do use it, and I also offer training and consulting to Doc-To-Help users.
I would agree that the product at first sight seems to have a steep learning
curve, but I think this is deceptive. Running through all the tutorials (The
Guided Tour) should really introduce you to most of the features and
concepts. Of course I believe strongly in taking the training offered by
ComponentOne (I would recommend this for all new Help authors using any of
the various HATs). I think that the proficiency gained from a training
course more than pays for the cost.
The bigger issue for first-time Help authors is learning how to write Help
and organize and structure content. This, coupled with a lack of familiarity
with the tools, is often what makes the learning curve seem steeper.
We are here to help.

Subject: ComponentOne Doc-to-Help
Doe anyone here use Doc-to-Help Enterprise? This is my first Help Authoring
system, and I chose it because I could never get Flare to work properly,
RoboHelp's future was vague, and ComponentOne-well, it worked, and did what
I needed to do. That said, Doc-to-Help has a pretty steep learning curve,
especially for someone who has never used Help Authoring software. Has
anyone else here used it? I'd like to get some feedback from those who have
used it.
