TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I just wanted to say thank you for everyone's responses--I went with creating sections by genre (web content, marketing collateral, articles, technical writing, and editing) and subsections when appropriate. When appropriate, I included a screen shots and the cover and 1st chapter of a very long technical manual that I'd worked on and ended up with a portfolio over 100 pages long. It was very well received in an interview yesterday, and my interviewer (director of marketing) commented on how much he liked how it demonstrated my flexibility as a writer.
I will follow the same format for a CD/ebook/web document as soon as the new part for my scanner arrives, but hopefully won't need the portfolio anytime soon, as an offer letter is in the works.
Happy dancing,
Julia
