To add to what Lauren said...also check state laws and regulations. In
Massachusetts, any company offering health insurance must immediately
cover pre-existing conditions. (I have one that will never be
successfully treated, so I guess I'd better never move to where Lauren
lives!)
Also, Massachusetts offers health insurance to the self-employed and
to small businesses, according to specific income guidelines.
