In information technology, extensible describes something, such as a program, programming language, or protocol, that is designed so that users (or later designers) can extend its capabilities. Extensibility can be a primary reason for the system, as in the case of the Extensible Markup Language (XML <http://searchWebServices.techtarget.com/sDefinition/0,,sid26_gci213404,00.html> ), or it may be only a minor feature.

Subject: term need: regarding software development
We are having trouble coming to agreement on the correct term to describe
software & Help systems that are built with future expansion in mind. That
is, software that is NOT built for one-time release but that is built to
allow for any modification, enhancements, & future developments without
requiring the need for an entirely new architecture and core.
Current term in use: Extensible (this beat out expandable and agile)
I feel there is a specific term for this, but I just cannot think of
it...anyone have it?
Thanks in advance!
