TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
The aesthetics of a user interface are usually considered to be a
usability factor in that,
as Don Norman points out
(http://www.jnd.org/dn.mss/is_perceived_usabili.html) we
are attuned to things that don't look "right" and that can interfere
with our use.
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of books, articles and
papers on the subject;
Jakob Nielsen has written several.
There are some excellent books on specific aspects, like "The Flash
Usability Guide: Interacting
with Flash MX" by Chris MacGregor, Crystal Waters, and David Doull, but
if you are looking for
something quite broad, I can highly recommend Tufte's books on visual
design.
There are of course some excellent related blogs, Joel Spool, Togg, ...
Simon.
