Some years ago I was working for a company I didn't
like much; perhaps that was coming out in my
subconscious. Whatever the reason, I had a consistent
habit of whenever I was trying to type the word
"management," it almost always came out "mangement."
I'm not entirely certain the spell checker caught them
all.
And before that, I had a job where I had to hire a
contractor to help me finish a project. We had
developed a way of bulking out documents in progress.
Whenever we had to put a section in a document and we
didn't yet have enough information, we would block out
an area by inserting nonsense - greeking, quotes,
parts of old typewriting tests, etc. In one manual
that went out to the customers, in a section that was
done by the contractor, spell checking missed some
stuff because it was all spelled correctly, and being
in a rush to meet a deadline I didn't proof the
document enough. So in a set of instructions that's
supposed to tell the reader how to correct some
problem, there was the notation, "If this procedure
fails to properly renoberate the frabjapper, bend over
and kiss it goodbye."
