TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Agency contracts were the predominant way we hired temporary
writers (not mention engineers, CAD designers, lab techs, etc.)
prior to the dotcom years of the 90's, when all of a sudden everyone
became 1099 "consultants." Things are just resetting themselves back
to what used to be "normal."
Unfortunately, Gene, that's exactly why so many contract writers are
having to go through an Agency. They then become an employee of the
agency which then dictates when and where they will work-- usually on
site. Most annoying.
